Woody, Idaho

28 May 2013

Boise is french for woody.
I was trying to be witty and come up with a cool title.

Never mind.
Here are some pictures.

One more thing.
Award for World's Greatest Cheeks goes to Victor Ferris.
Seriously.

This city girl had an amazing time in the country with her roommates. I even listened to some country music.
Voluntarily.
Be worried.

In Case You Were Wondering

22 May 2013

This is a picture of a heart.
The heart is absolutely, 100% without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite organ.

Mine especially. I'm sure you have a wonderful heart, but I really, really like mine. More than yours. As I mentioned before; my heart started off a little dysfunctional, but has made it through the last 21 eventful years without the slightest tremor. Well maybe one or two tremors. But nothing drastic.

You probably know that I want to become a paediatrician, but the reason why might be a little ambiguous. Yes, I LOOOOVE children. And I love science, but whilst working on my personal statement for medical school, I've been forced to think about the real reason that I want to dedicate so many years of my life to this vocation. So I thought I'd share some of those reasons with you.

I was born with an atrial septal defect and a ventricular septal defect, which means that there were problems with the walls separating the sagittal chambers of my heart. More specifically, there is a structure called the ductus arteriosis which is supposed to close when you take your first breath as a little bubba, but mine decided it was not quite done being open! This basically means that the blood from the right side of my heart was mixing with the blood on the left, and that is a big no-no.

Surgery was imperative and I underwent a large operation on July 22nd 1992. I was 2 months old, but thanks to the amazing team of surgeons that operated on me that day, my life has since been filled with trillions of moments that I would not swap for anything.

That is the main reason I want to do medicine.
Those moments.
Yes, 98% life is boring and mundane and routine, but that 98% is infiltrated with moments everyday.

Knowing that I can use my interests and talents (that I am striving to find and develop) to help another little person have some of those moments fills me with excitement, and a sense of duty.

This is not to say however, that things won't change.
I've learned too much in the past 3 years to fool myself into thinking that life plans are ever certain. But this is what I've got so far, so I'm running with it.
Well not running.
I hate running.

SO if you ever happen to walk past me looking like this in the library

Subliminal Messages brought to you by the girls of 608

13 May 2013

So as I sat at the crack of dawn reading this morning, I glanced at the living room wall and realized that our apartment had inadvertently sent out a message to all our potential suitors....

Whoops. Sorry fellas. We didn't mean it. Feel free to come back whenever you want.

Cheers to the Freakin' Weekend

12 May 2013

Spring has arrived and I'm LOVING IT!!
This weekend was particularly fun and I had a great time being with a few of my favs.
Literally.
Best. Semester.
I spent a total of 13 hours prepping for and taking a BRUTAL Biology test (the class is 5 credits. five.)
So naturally, I played pretty hard!

And it all started with a little Hawaiian, Civil War, Futuristic, Thrift Shop fun...

We're all feeling it. And it feels gooood.

twenty-one

03 May 2013

Count 'em friends

twenty one candles for this twenty one year old WOMAN.

Sorry if this is obnoxious, but I literally love my birthday! I just love being older and moving on in life! It's so exciting. So many plans for the future. So many places that I could end up- and for once I'm not scared!

Here's twenty-one things from twenty-one years.

1) The life plans you make don't necessarily work out the way you would like to- but they will work out the way they're supposed to.
2) My heart is absolutely my favorite organ ever, it started out broken and lasted 21 years (and hopefully many more.. way to go little guy).
3) After 17 years, I still want to be a doctor and fix broken babies. School is hard, but so far... it's still happening.
4) My mother is literally the funniest person to roam the Earth. Ever.
5) I will never be taller than I was at age 14.
6) My mother always has been and always will be right. Always. (Luckily she can't work the internet and will never see that I wrote this).
7) There are no heels too high as long as the rest of the outfit is classy.
8) Taking off in an airplane is one of the best feelings ever.
9) I still don't feel fully comfortable wearing colored lipstick (trying to be fearless).
10) Children and old people are my favorite type of people
11) There is literally no reason to not be a nice person. Nothing in your life is so bad that you deserve to treat others badly.
12) Standing true to who you are will always serve you well.
13) Galaxy is the best chocolate ever.
14) The piano is still my favorite instrument to listen to. It's a dream.
15) I'm pretty sure that all you need to know about Parenting can be learned in a few episodes of the Cosby Show.
16) Being 21 trumps being 15/16/17
17) There's no end to the amount that you can learn. About yourself, about others and about this incredible world that we live in.
18) I have an infinite amount to be grateful for. Every day.
19) I know more about myself now than I ever have before.
20) I CANNOT wait to have a family of my own, and little kiddlings. Love those kiddlings
21) The gospel of Jesus Christ is true and living, and has been the one truth that I can count on!

Meanwhile, I had an incredible day. I have really wonderful friends and family, and thank them for all that they did for me!
